Those Who Died in the Line of Duty

It is the 911 dispatch call that no one ever wants to hear – 999 - officer down.

They are the frantic words from a 911 operator telling others working patrol that a fellow deputy is down and may be seriously injured or dead. In the history of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, those words have been uttered too many times.

In a profession known for its inherent dangers and its requirement for self-sacrifice, 18 Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies have been killed in the line of duty since 1922.

We honor them and we remember them for their courage and self-sacrifice.
